Melanie1imageI’ve had the pleasure of working with Melanie a few times within the Erato Ensemble. I’m not sure if it was her amazing voice, her impeccable musicality, or her kick-ass sense of humour, but I knew from the start that she would be perfect for the Narrator.

In this opera, though, the Narrator is not simply the story teller, she’s what brings the audience into the action of the story. She starts off as the funnest person you could ever want to meet, but it’s not long before….(no spoiler! Come to the premiere to find out more!

While you wait, read below for more about Melanie!

Melanie has performed across Canada, including performances for radio and television.  She has performed extensively throughout the Lower Mainland; her repertoire ranges from Early Music to world premieres of new works. Recent performances include appearances with the Pacific Baroque Orchestra and “A Company of Instruments” Baroque Orchestra; creating the role of Margot McGillen in a concert performance of Supernatural Noir (comp. Cameron Wilson; lib. Kico Gonzalez-Risso) for MusicFest Vancouver 2010; and performing in MusicFest Vancouver & Early Music Vancouver’s 2009 co-production of The Faerie Queene. In the 2011-12 season, in addition to her intima performances, Melanie will be appearing in three new operas: Love Thy Neighbour  (comp. Edward Top; lib. Tom Cone), a reprise of her Supernatural Noir role in a Fugue Theatre production, and Shadow Catch produced by Pro Musica Vancouver. Melanie also enjoys teaching; for years she taught at the BC Conservatory of Music, and has been on faculty at Capilano University.  She has been a choral clinician and festival adjudicator around the Lower Mainland, and currently teaches at the Delta Community Music School and at her New Westminster home.
