A little bit about the opera…

15 Nov

Diagnosis: Diabetes is one of the most exciting projects I’m currently working on. Slated for completion in 2013, it is an hour-long chamber opera.  At the heart of the opera is Charlie, a diabetic that everyone who deals with diabetes can relate to.  Individual scenes depict Charlie at different points in his life from his childhood diagnosis, through adulthood. But it’s not as straight forward as all that…

I couldn’t imagine simply telling my own story about being diabetic, and I really want to honour the online community of diabetics who share their experiences. What I’ve learned from the Diabetes Online Community is two-fold:

  1. No two diabetics’ stories are the same.
  2. No diabetic is alone in their experiences.

With that said, I want to make sure each audience’s experience of my opera is just as unique. Which is why this opera is interactive!

That’s as much as I’ll say for now, but stay tuned. Next time, I’ll go into a little more detail about how an interactive opera works.

What a great and original idea. There are so many reasons to be excited about your work, will there be glitter involved? Seriously, keep me posted!
